Prehistoric New York: Underwater Dominion

Prehistoric New York: Underwater Dominion

July 9 | 2pm | In-Person | Cannon’s Walk | Free

Does the theatrical release of a summer blockbuster have you craving more prehistoric content? South Street Seaport Museum is pleased to welcome dinosaur expert, science communicator, and author Dustin Growick who will give you and your family a crash course in prehistoric creatures that lurked in the depths of New York Harbor and the surrounding waterways.

You will be introduced to some of the creatures that currently reside in and around New York Harbor as well as get a look at some archeological artifacts from the sea that shaped the history of the South Street Seaport Historic District. Hands-on activities and exploration will give you new insights on some of the strangest prehistoric aquatic animals who once called the waters of New York home.

Please Note This is a Past Program, Event, or Activity

You are viewing an archived page for a program, event, or activity that has already taken place. In most cases these pages are no longer actively maintained and because of that may contain inaccurate or out-of-date information. These pages are left publicly viewable to preserve institutional memory and to allow the public to learn more about the types of programs, activities, and content created and made available by the South Street Seaport Museum throughout its history.

The event will begin at Cannon’s Walk located at 206 Front Street (breezeway next door to Big Gay Ice Cream). Cannon’s Walk is an indoor courtyard with doors on either side which will be open to provide optimum airflow. In keeping with COVID-19 policies of the Seaport Museum, masks are encouraged during this portion of the program. After a brief introduction, there will be hands-on activities outdoors.
